Survey: Access to News

As part of the Southern Studies Fellowship in Arts & Letters, I am researching how people access news. According to the Local News Initiative, there has been a "net loss" of nearly 2,900 newspapers in the U.S. between 2005 and 2023. More than 200 counties have no local media source. How does this affect the present and future of the South? Does this reflect a national trend?

Some questions I am exploring:

  • How does access to news and information affect communities?

  • How do algorithms influence the public’s access to news and information?

  • What “should” access to information and news look like?

  • What solutions exist?

Linked below is a very short (7-question survey). Your participation in this project is greatly appreciated. Your email address will not be shared. This survey will close on/about January 31, 2024.
